History Of Callaway

Callaway Golf Company now designs, manufactures, markets and sells golf equipment like golf clubs, golf balls, golf accessories, and golf lifestyle-related products in more than 70 countries worldwide. Ely Reeves Callaway Jr. the founder of the company was a successful entrepreneur in the textile and wine industry prior to founding Callaway Golf Company. 

Ely Reeves Callaway Jr. was a golfer and his favorite club was Hickory Sticks. Hickory Sticks was renowned for clubs with hickory shafts and steel cores. All of a sudden Hickory sticks were low on funds and started looking for investors and approached Mr. Callaway who just sold his vineyards. Callaway bought half of the shares in 1982 and the rest in 1984 and then changed the company name to its present name in 1988. Since then Callaway Golf Company stared its journey and gained a brand image by providing the best quality products.

2017

Callaway acquires OGIO, a US-based sports bag, travel bag, and apparel brand and TravisMathew, a California-based lifestyle and golf apparel brand.

1997

Callaway Golf acquires the Odyssey brand from Tommy Armour Golf. It becomes the world’s leading supplier of putters.

Callaway Golf goes public In February 1992 on the New York Stock Exchange, trading under the symbol ELY, with a market capitalization of $250 million.

1982

Ely Reeves Callaway Jr. bought half of Hickory Sticks USA and the company was renamed “Callaway Hickory Stick USA.”
